Is Spelt a GMO?

No. Maverick spelt is not a GMO. It is actually an anciently used wheat.

Why Should I Buy Spelt?

Spelt is more water soluble, and easier to digest than regular wheat. Spelt has a sweet nutty flavor and a light fluffy texture. Just like all grains, there are different varieties; each with its own qualities. Maverick spelt has better baking qualities than other types of spelt.

How Do I Use Spelt?

Spelt is used almost exactly the same way you would use regular flour or grain. When a recipe calls for flour, just replace it with the same amount of spelt flour. Because it is whole grain, you should let the spelt absorb the moisture before you add all your flour. Check out some of our favorite recipes here.

What Are the Health Benefits?

Spelt is more water soluble, which makes for easier digesting. It's lower on the glycemic index, keeping your blood sugars low like regular wheat does. Spelt is also rich in vitamin B, and has proteins, amino acids, and minerals that wheat doesn’t.

How Does it Taste?

Compared to normal wheat, spelt has a sweet flavor. Instead of the bitter and hard berries you might expect, spelt berries are soft and chewy.
